06 September 2017, Valdak Marshes, Inner part of Porsanger fjord, Finnmark, Norway 29 LWfG observed (Fennoscandian) - 22 Ad 5 2cy 2 juv. One brood with two goslings. 03 September 2017, Vieranjarga coastal meadows, Varangerfjorden, Nesseby, Finnmark, Norway 2 LWfG observed (Fennoscandian) - 2 Ad. 2 adult LWfG roosting with 23 Greylag Geese and 10 Barnacles early morning on the small pond with either brackish or fresh water on the shore of the cape. At 4.25-4.27 they lift off with Greylags heading to South East. At 6.45 -7.40 same LWfG were found at Southern coast of the cape. 01 September 2017, Vieranjarga coastal meadows, Varangerfjorden, Nesseby, Finnmark, Norway 2 LWfG observed (Fennoscandian) - 2 Ad. 2 Ad. 2 adult LWfG with loose flock of 1 Greater White-fronts, 1 Tundra Bean Goose and 95 Greylag Geese in the afternoon 14.25-14.40 local time.Birds were feeding berries and chased to fly several times by White-tailed Eagle. It is the most winterly summer in almost 100 years, with really lots of snow and almost no birds breeding. 2/3 of the core breeding area surveyed with one egg clutch located, 14 ad pairs, 2 imm pairs and ~15 imm (2cy). This is the highest count of LWfG during spring staging at the Valdak Marshes since the monitoring started in 1990. The former record was of 73 individuals on May 17th 2016.
