Monitoring

Regular monitoring of the Lesser White-fronted Goose is carried out on all the most important staging and wintering areas of the Fennsocandian population. Various studies are also carried out within the distribution areas for the Russian populations, though these are more sporadical.

Monitoring instructions

Field monitoring instructions for Lesser White-fronted Goose: These instructions are made for Lesser White-fronted Goose surveys in staging and wintering areas. In these areas the LWfG are often mixed with large numbers of other goose species, usually with the (Greater) White-fronted Goose A. albifrons.

Field identification

Field identification instructions. Identification of lesser white-fronted geese are difficult. To ease field work we have made available a short field identification instruction pinpointing the most important characters for separation from the very similar White-fronted Goose.

Field identification

Field identification article. In 1999 an article of identification of lesser white-fronted geese was published in the Finnish magazine Alula. Here is an pdf that can aid in pinpointing the most important characters for this species.
